WASHINGTON, DC – The Root Cause Coalition welcomed Aetna as its newest member since January 1, 2018, bringing the Coalition’s total membership to 50 organizations.
Founded in 1853 in Hartford, CT, Aetna is committed to building a healthier world by helping people achieve their health ambitions and helping to address barriers that affect the health of individuals in communities across the nation.
“The Root Cause Coalition is proud to add one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished insurance providers to its diverse, growing membership,” said Barbara Petee, Executive Director of the Root Cause Coalition. “Aetna brings the resources and institutional knowledge of a Fortune 50 company, as well as a demonstrated commitment to redressing the root causes of health inequity.”
“Recognizing that a person’s zip code is a stronger predictor of their health than their genetic code, Aetna has made it a priority to address social determinants of health — the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age,” noted Tracey Green, Vice President of Personalized Health for Aetna Medicaid. “We look forward to collaborating with the Root Cause Coalition in its critical work to achieve health equity and increase individual and community health.”
Aetna became the seventh organization to join the Coalition in 2018, following the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Second Harvest Heartland, LISC, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities and Fairview Health Services.
