The Root Cause Coalition is honored to announce that the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), a national association of 35 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, has joined The Root Cause Coalition.
“As a healthcare industry leader focused on equity and addressing social determinants, we are fortunate to welcome BCBSA as another advocate for health justice,” said Barbara Petee, Executive Director of The Root Cause Coalition.
Since 1929, Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies have provided health care coverage to members. Today, BCBS companies are in every ZIP code and collectively cover 110 million people – or one in three Americans – in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
“Our surroundings – including where we are born, live, work and age – all have a significant impact on our health,” said Justine Handelman, senior vice president of the Office of Policy and Representation for BCBSA. “That’s why we’re excited to join The Root Cause Coalition to promote health equity and address the social determinants that are so connected to individuals’ overall health and well-being.”
